Bitesize : Svengali – The Film

I usually end up watching most films about the music industry and Svengali is no exception. Made on a low-budget with many of the cast doing it for a nominal fee just so the film could be made. Written, produced and staring the charismatic Jonny Owen as the main man, Dixie. He’s a Welshman who hears a band on Youtube and is determined to make them the next big sensation. The band The Premature Congratulations (The Prems for short) achieve this after Dixie does everything to fulfil has ambition at the almost detriment of everyone including his fiancée Michelle (played by Vicky McClure). The crux of it he has to decide what is more important, I will let you find out the result of that. I have to mention the cameo appearances of Alan McGee (Creation supremo) playing himself wonderfully and Martin Freeman who shaped up well as record store owning Mod. The soundtrack is awesome taking music from the 60’s right up to the present day. 9/10.
