Well it’s been quite awhile since I have seen Lloyd Cole live in concert so I’m really looking forward to the performance at the end of the month in Stamford. It was around the early 90’s I last saw him on stage, which was at the Zenith in Paris ,as part of a two-day festival, which included Big Audio Dynamite, Love & Money and The Silencers. Now residing in America, it’s great see him back over here and last night he recorded a few songs for the BBC’s Later With Jools Holland series. For me he’s managed to maintain his cool persona and there ain’t many better lyricists about. If you want proof of this then read my review of his latest album ‘Standards‘. Hot off the press a tweet from the great man himself: “@StevoMusicMan Not really touring ‘Standards‘. I’m solo. Playing songs from most all albums. Playing more than a few but stripped down. Particularly enjoying ‘Kids Today‘” This sounds all good to me, as he has a wonderful back catalogue to plunder, lets’ hope ‘2CV‘ is given an airing too.
