Hidden Gems : The Waterboys – The Stolen Child

Continuing this very popular viewed series of Hidden Gems (tracks which should have been hits or excellent album tracks). I’ll present you a track via YouTube, Soundcloud or other sites. These posts are for the music only.

I thought I’d highlight ‘The Stolen Child‘ by The Waterboys taken from the excellent album ‘Fisherman’s Blues‘. Originally released in 1988, the album is soon to have an extensive overhaul in the shape of a 6 (six) CD set. Retitled ‘Fisherman’s Box‘ it has been masterfully pieced together by front man Mike Scott, they’ll be touring to promote this at the end of the year. This song is also the first time the lyrics of William Yeats were used by the band. 2011’s album ‘An Appointment With Mr Yeats‘ was based entirely on the poets words. On this particular track the spoken words are really haunting which only adds to the ambience of the music.

Have a listen – what do you think?
