Hidden Gems : Squeeze – King George Street

Today I thought I would highlight this not widely known tune by Squeeze dubbed as ‘Up The Junction 2’. Taken from the 1985 album ‘Cosi Fan Tutti Frutti‘ which welcomed the return of Jools Holland to the fold. ‘King George Street‘ is probably labelled as such due to its storytelling quality in the lyrics. You can’t mistake Jools input also. At the time the writing powers of Deptford’s finest Glen Tilbrook and Chris Difford were at their height, with few matching them. This single didn’t come out in coloured vinyl unlike many of it predecessors, of which I had a rainbow full of them on 7″ single including ‘Cool For Cats‘, ‘Goodbye Girl‘ and the aforementioned classic ‘Up The Junction‘.

So should this have been a hit or a miss?
