I was reliably informed on this day that the fourth album by The Stranglers entitled ‘The Raven‘ was released. This is one of my favourite albums of all time to be honest. Not to mention the 3D sleeve and the now banned inside sleeve, objected by some Australians no less. For me the title track is one of their most memorable pieces of music. Along with ‘Nuclear Device‘ and ‘Genetix‘ it helped make this essential listening. I still laugh out loud on hearing ‘Meninblack‘, in fact so do my kids when they hear it. This album for me is where the band broke out of the mold they had been cemented in from their start, now Dave Greenfield’s keyboards played a bigger part of the proceedings.
The hit single was ‘Duchess‘ a song I was caught singing out loud on a London bus, whilst having my headphones plugged in, oh the shame! They tackled the problems of day too as I do remember playing ‘Shah-Shah A Go-Go‘ repeatedly when Iran rose up against its leader not long after the album’s release. Though I may have got muddled up about timelines here. For those who only know the bands singles maybe now is a time to take an in-depth look at what they offered.
