Before Pete Burns went and sided up with the SAW sound, Dead Or Alive had released a great many interesting songs. Most notably the single ‘The Stranger‘ which to me was their defining moment. Prior to this they released three singles all worth a listen ‘It’s Been Hours‘, ‘I’m Falling‘ and ‘Number Eleven‘. Their debut album ‘Sophisticated Boom Boom‘ wasn’t too bad either which was produced by Zeus B. Held. It spawned some great singles too, especially the remixed 12″ versions of ‘Misty Circles‘ and ‘What I Want‘. The latter had a re-recorded version of ‘The Stranger‘ as its B-side. Fair play to them they went for gold and for a while were the band the radio and public loved. For me though those early days were rather special and mystical under the leadership of Pete whom you either loved or hated. There was no doubt that he was a charismatic character that had a plan.
So should this have been a hit or a miss?
