RIP : Alan Myers – Devo Drummer (1976 – 1986) Age 58

Sad news as another musician has lost his battle with cancer. He wasn’t the most famous of names but Alan Myers was a very influential drummer. Joining US outfit, Devo in 1976 and played on their first seven albums. They reached their peak in 1979 with the single ‘Whip It’ which proceeded the wonderful album ‘Freedom Of Choice‘ a year later. It didn’t chart very high in the UK charts but kept selling week after week for years to come. It did turn out to be one of Virgin best-selling 12″ singles. Many indie bands have tried to copy the unique style of band  and let’s not forget their distinct image too. So lets remember him for all the good things that was Devo at their best. RIP!
