Bitesize : Mind Of Max – Seasons EP

Some reviews are easy to do, as you just love what you’re listening to and this one of those scenarios. Max Weiner under the guise of Mind Of Max leans towards the folky sounds made so popular by Simon and Garfunkel, a tag he does justice to. As the title of this EP suggests, ‘Seasons‘ we get four distinct and favourable songs. ‘Winter‘ starts the cycle here and the drums remind me of waves breaking on a cold beach. Here he describes his favourite time of year magically with such interesting lyrics. Whilst ‘Spring‘ sounds like he’s written it from a child’s point of view, “splashes in the mud“, a kind of innocence. This song’s pitch certainly plants the seeds of hope with an airy feel to it with the superb production by Andrew Judah. As you would expect ‘Summer‘ follows and from his lyrics a time he likes to avoid the sun’s rays; “she’ll burn you like a piece of toast“. This is the most sparse song basically in the set, just the guitar to accompany his relaxed vocals. Probably as it’s a far more personal song to him. Lastly ‘Fall‘ concludes this EP and here lifts you back up with possibly the best track on the collection. The soaring slide guitar in the background and the expectation in his voice lets you know he’s again yearning for the forthcoming season.  Like the seasons I’m just as happy to repeat the process and listen to them all again for more subtleties within. 5/5 Faultless just like his drawing on the cover.
