Bitesize : Mike Beever – Seasons Of Man EP

Mike Beever an exiled Brit based in New Zealand has a new record out ‘Seasons Of Man‘ EP, famed for providing the music to last years EDF Olympic advertisement. The first instrumental is entitled ‘The Descent Of Man‘, real lounge music along the lines of ‘Strangers In The Night‘. For some reason I keep picturing Tracy family from the TV show Thunderbirds sitting around their pool listening to one of them playing this sublime piece of music. ‘The Evil That Men Do‘ is a more pronounced track with the piano gradually elevating you to a peaceful state. Whereas ‘The Big Beautiful‘ has a lighter side to it giving you a sense of fulfilment as a joyous feeling presides here. If you listen closely it has a dash of Simple Minds ‘A Brass Band In Africa‘. This leads us into ‘The End (Epilogue)‘ that has some lovely keyboards under the piano and for me the stand out track the way it evolves to a splendid conclusion. As a bonus there’s an ambient mix of ‘The Evil That Men Do‘ to complete this inspiring set of songs recommended when reading something as it soothes the mind. 5/5 classical class.
