Buzzcocks were the first band I bought tickets to go see live back in 1979 so it’s apt I’d highlight these wonderful Peel sessions here. When Howard Devoto departed to form Magazine, guitarist Pete Shelley took up the lead vocal duties and the rest was history so to speak. Short songs with great melodies and very catchy lyrics were the order of the day. Playing live they lost none of this and in fact added power which radiated to the fans who always left the premises hot and sweaty after bouncing around the floor to music played. So here’s a selection of their material many I feel sound better than the studio versions.
07 September 1977 – Fast Cars – Pulse Beat – What Do I Get?
10 April 1978 – Noise Annoys – Walking Distance – Late For The Train
18 October 1978 – Promises – Lipstick – Everybody’s Happy Nowadays – Sixteen Again
21 May 1979 – I Don’t Know What To Do With My Life – Mad Mad Judy – Hollow Inside – E.S.P.
