Artists To Look Out For The Future – Do We Need These Lists?

Every year it’s the same with the music press trying to force upon us their recommendations for the coming new year! We then get overloaded by the same press for these artists, just to justify their original lists. The NME used to be really good at doing this, and then in subsequent years knock them back down. To me if the music is good enough it will shine through regardless.

Last year I heard a lot of new good music, none were taken from any of those lists, but what I heard on the radio be it BBC 6 Music or the Introducing shows from around the UK. The bands therefore don’t have this added pressure put on them. In fact most seem rather calm and collective which to me gets the best out of them. Word of mouth too, can you remember that’s how Arctic Monkeys came to fore. Good management is often the key to an artist getting on in the music industry. Wouldn’t you rather be the person who finds the gem of a band rather than being told what to listen to in the next coming 12 months?
