Peel Sessions : The Danse Society

Another in the occasional series made possible due to the wonderful exploits by some wonderful YouTube Up-loaders. I want to highlight some of those bands that John Peel had recorded sessions for his show over the years.

Barnsley own so-called gothic band, The Danse Society whom I first saw at Futurama 4 at the Deeside Leisure Centre back in 1982. I had already got their early singles ‘Clock‘ and ‘There Is No Shame In Death‘. Then after hearing this session with the two middle tracks of ‘We’re So Happy‘ and ‘Woman’s Own‘ they went up a level in my opinion. They released the mini album ‘Seduction‘ and the 12″ EP ‘Woman’s Own‘. I can remember vividly two great gigs of theirs I witnessed at Retford’s Porterhouse and Leicester’s Horsefair venues.
