Hidden Gems : Modern English – Gathering Dust

Continuing this very popular viewed series of Hidden Gems (tracks which should have been hits or should have been singles). I’ll present you a track via YouTube, Daily Motion, Soundcloud or another site. These posts are for the music only.

Thought I would mention Modern English as they have re-grouped again and will be touring the UK very soon. Having myself not seen them since the very early 1980’s, I may just turn up at one of them. For a band on 4AD they were tipped for big things, and actually in United States had a large fan base. The iconic single ‘I Melt With You‘ is still a great piece of radio airplay music. But for me it was the earlier material like the featured song and ‘Swans On Glass‘ which defined them for me. The first two albums ‘Mesh And Lace‘ and ‘After The Snow‘ are wonderful slices of music, with special mention of ‘Life In The Gladhouse‘ (special mix below too). Later material though did go a bit poppy but when you are being pushed by a major label to have a hit that is what happens I guess. We all know bands who sold themselves for money!

So should this have been a hit or a miss?
