Retro : BBC – Punk Britannia 1 – 1972-1976

Last night on BBC4 it aired a really interesting programme on the roots of the punk music in the UK. The actual content on the punk scene was minimal with the vast majority of the show examining how it emerged and filled the front pages of our daily newspapers. It showed the social tension and how pub rock laid the foundations for the likes of the Sex Pistols, The Clash and The Damned. Strangely enough the show was very London-based ignoring most of Britain. So sit back and enjoy this show below.

Cheers for the text last night Stevo about this. I watched the show but like you, from what I can glean from your post, I too was a tad disappointed. Had so much potential but didn’t quite deliver. Maybe next week’s part will step it up a gear?!? Still, loved Wilko taking the pi55 out of the two keyboard showbiz boll0x! Thanks again.

    • Yes I did feel it could have done with an extra half hour and show how it spread round the country. There was some interesting omissions. Oh well maybe the next programme we’ll get the full story
