Hidden Gems : The Adverts – Television’s Over

Continuing this very popular viewed series of Hidden Gems (tracks which should have been hits). I’ll present you a track via YouTube, Daily Motion, Soundcloud or another site. These posts are for the music only.

Today I have decided to highlight one of the under-rated bands of the punk movement on the back of the Punk Britannia night on BBC4. The Adverts will always be associated with the single ‘Gary Gilmore’s Eyes‘ but they were far more than that. In TV Smith they had a real songwriter that could actually churn out a decent tune too. Taken from the album ‘Cast Of Thousands‘ back in 1979 and they were still maligned by the likes of the NME at the time. But this is one album I like to listen to every now and then as it has so much depth to it. It was great to see the BBC did a programme on them instead of going for the obvious choice punk bands.

So should this have been a hit or a miss?
