Continuing this very popular viewed series of Hidden Gems (tracks which should have been hits). I’ll present you a track via YouTube, Daily Motion, Soundcloud or another site. These posts are for the music only.
Today’s band hail from Holland are sometimes called Clan Of Xymox started their career on the icon indie label 4AD. There they released a couple of albums of pure class which spawned songs like ‘A Day‘, ‘Stranger‘ and ‘Medusa‘. All of these were very dark electronic based tracks. But when they signed to major label Polydor their mood changed somewhat under the production of Pete Walsh. They obviously had seen how bands like New Order, Colourbox and Cabaret Voltaire had pushed indie dance to a new level. They released songs like ‘Obsession‘ and ‘Evelyn‘ all of which had dance mixes released. The song I chose was the crossover song released on both labels. The fourth album ‘Phoenix‘ was a bit of a let down compared to previous works. But once back on an indie label the music did veer back towards former glories.
So should this have been a hit or a miss?
