Hidden Gems : The Sound – Monument

Continuing this very popular viewed series of Hidden Gems (tracks which should have been hits). I’ll present you a track via YouTube, Daily Motion, Soundcloud or another site. These posts are for the music only.

Today I want to feature a band who were originally signed to the same Korova label as Echo & The Bunnymen. In fact The Sound were the first band to release an album on it. They toured extensively and even though they changed labels frequently it would seem the output never waned in quality just sales. Led by the deceased Adrian Borland who also wrote most of their music they had a great frontman. On songs like ‘Dreams Then Plans‘, ‘Kinetic‘, ‘New Dark Age‘, ‘Sense Of Purpose‘ and the grand ‘Wildest Dreams‘ showed some of his talents. He did release quite a few solo recordings too after the band disbanded. Likewise he had quite of bit of success in the Benelux region of Europe. I actually saw them in that region back in the mid 80’s and their popularity was real. Today I’ve chosen a track off their third album ‘All Fall Down‘ which like most of their earlier albums have been re-issued finally.

So should this have been a hit or a miss?

One Response to Hidden Gems : The Sound – Monument

All Fall Down is one of my favourite Sound albums, despite the lukewarm reception it got at the time. Adrian’s solo albums are also well worth investigating, particularly the posthumous “Harmony & Destruction”

So what do you think then ....
