Hidden Gems : The Open – Elevation

Continuing this very popular viewed series of Hidden Gems (tracks which should have been hits). I’ll present you a track via YouTube, Daily Motion, Soundcloud or another site. These posts are for the music only.

My favourite album in 2004 was ‘The Silent Hours‘ by The Open a record packed with very dynamic sounds. The last track from the record I’ve chosen as this stood out for me. Their range varied greatly from the dreamy ‘Just Want To Live‘, the rattling ‘Bring Me Down‘ or the upbeat and bright ‘Close My Eyes‘. The previous year they had released their debut single ‘Never Enough‘ which had a real gutsy indie feel. The follow-up album in 2006 ‘Statues’ was rather disappointing in many respects though it did have some glimmers of former glories. Especially ‘Moments In Time‘ a real slow almost distant sounding song. In sharp contrast ‘We Can Never Really Say Goodbye‘ was possibly the closet to being a pop single on the album.

So should this have been a hit or a miss?
