Hidden Gems : The Chameleons – Swamp Thing

Continuing this very popular viewed series of Hidden Gems (tracks which should have been hits). I’ll present you a track via YouTube, Daily Motion, Soundcloud or another site. These posts are for the music only.

A very much underrated Mancunian band, The Chameleons have released some truly breathtaking albums throughout their career which started in the early 80’s. They were once touted by the musical weekly rags to be as big as U2 and the likes. But somehow this never materialised, even when such labels as Geffen saw their potential and US college radio gave them heavy airplay. For the life of me I cannot work out why ‘Tears‘, ‘As High As You Can Go‘,’Second Skin‘, ‘Up The Down Escalator‘ and the gritty ‘Don’t Fall‘ were not songs people bought by the bucketful. One thing that was always distinctive about them was their artwork drawn by band member Reg Smithies.

So should this have been a hit or a miss?
