Hidden Gems : The Associates – Breakfast

Continuing this very popular viewed series of Hidden Gems (tracks which should have been hits). I’ll present you a track via YouTube, Daily Motion, Soundcloud or another site. These posts are for the music only.

Ok today I’ve chosen the wonderful band that was The Associates originally made up of Alan Rankine and Billy McKenzie (who unfortunately is no longer with us anymore). Billy had one of the most striking voices I’ve ever heard. Most people when they hear the band’s name think of ‘Party Fears Two‘ or ‘Club Country‘. Well let me show you a secret they in fact released a plethora of albums prior and since ‘Sulk‘. The track I’ve chosen was from ‘Perhaps‘ which was missed by the majority of the public. Though I could easily have chosen ‘White Car In Germany‘,  ‘Gloomy Sunday‘ or ‘Where There’s Love‘. Alternately he also released a few solo records too which included the marvellous ‘Wild Is The Wind‘ performed with Steve Aungle.

So should this have been a hit or a miss?

Some people may equate the beret with Frank Spencer I will always think of the singer Billy McKenzie!
