Hidden Gems : Fiat Lux – Secrets

Continuing this very popular viewed series of Hidden Gems (tracks which should have been hits). I’ll present you a track via YouTube, Daily Motion, Soundcloud or another site. These posts are for the music only.

Today I’ve decided to mention and highlight an act who flaunted with success but again failed to set the charts on fire. The band in question is Fiat Lux, who were on Polydor Records at the time and they really pushed this band when it was acceptable to release multi formats. I do believe I have many ‘special editions’ by them I think it maybe fair to say it was harder to find a bog standard 7″ edition. But that shouldn’t detract you from their music they did release some great songs including ‘Feels Like Winter Again‘, ‘Photography‘ and ‘Blue Emotion‘. The band got their initial break when their first single was released on Bill Nelson’s Cocteau label, this came about as the band included the late Ian Nelson (Bill’s brother) who was truly awesome on the saxophone. He had previously been in the seminal band Be-Bop Deluxe along with Bill.

So should this have been a hit or a miss?

A brilliant choice for a forgotten gem. This band should have been huge. far superior to the pack

  3. This should have been massive. They never even released a proper album (Hired History just a mix of A & B sides). I’m sure there’s something in a vault somewhere. Bout time someone dug it out and gave it the re-master treatment.

Just listening to a cassette of the live concert they did for the BEEB in the early eighties, part of the ‘In Concert’ series. Excellent atmospheric and icy music…………..you need to be in the right mood.
