It’s been announced that a Free concert to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee this year is to be held outside her house, Buckingham Palace on 4 June 2012. The ticket allocation is just 10,000 people (5,000 pairs) on a random selection process (not first come first served – haha ticket touts – apply from 07/02/12 – 02/03/12). How random it is, is another matter though. Oh you also get an invite to the picnic too at the Palace gardens, anyone for a cucumber sarnie? No doubt it’s bound to rain on the day too.
Now it seems Mr Gary Barlow has organised this event but on looking at the acts performing it’s the same old faces including Paul McCartney, Cliff Richard and Elton John just too predictable. It would have been cool if they had picked some other household name acts just for a change, yes I know we get the token Ed Sheeran, but come on please. It Would have been better to poll the population on deciding which UK acts they would like to see perform at this event. I thought it would have been brilliant if they had asked The Sex Pistols to play, showing we do have a sense of humour! I was so glad to hear the Queen actually had no input in the choosing the acts too.
Still I suppose it has to be watered down for general consumption on the TV here and around the world. But it could have been an excellent tool to exhibit our new acts too. I’m sure plenty will watch it and say what a good show it was too. I would be intrigued to know which acts you’d like to see on that stage, who are still alive! For more reading check here.
