The 53’s – Liverpool Continues to Produce

Well I was asked to have a listen to The 53’s songs on Soundcloud which I duly did over the weekend. A four piece band who certainly slant towards my kind of genre, in a big way. The best way to describe them is if you mixed the Arctic Monkeys with another Liverpudlian fave of mine The Coral and you’ll be somewhere near to where this band’s musical content lies.

The band haven’t been slow in making some classy video’s either so check their YouTube channel. They’ve been getting radio airplay nationally with NME radio and locally with BBC Merseyside. They’re very active also on the net with Facebook, MySpace and Twitter to supply their fans with up to date information. It does certainly seem that the city has alot of talent waiting to be unleashed on the UK if not the world’s ears. Keep an eye on this band I say.

Restless Legs‘ is a cool song laced with winding lyrics and that upbeat chorus to boot. Whereas ‘Fooling Me‘ harks back to the aforementioned band The Coral, with the rhythmic guitar leading proceedings. But ‘Lust Not Love‘ for me is alot beefier (is there such a word?) showing that they can produce a song which keeps your interest. It simmers and every now and then comes to the boil with an explosion of energy. Last up is ‘Old Cassette‘ which is led by the bass and drums and has the apt lyrics “we played an old cassette and danced the night away”. Don’t you just love a city that loves music? I do.
