Hidden Gems : Jerry Burns – Pale Red

Continuing this very popular viewed series of Hidden Gems (tracks which should have been hits). I’ll present you a track via YouTube, Daily Motion, Soundcloud or another site. These posts are for the music only.

This woman Jerry Burns released an awesome debut album back in 1992 which I managed to sell every copy when I played it in the shop (though seems it didn’t sell well anywhere else). Such an angelic voice with the music sounding like the diminutive band The Blue Nile whom it is said actually backed her. There wasn’t a bad track on the album. Have a listen to ‘Sometimes I’m Wild‘, the marvellous mystical ‘Angel‘ and not least ‘Crossing Over‘ to sample this woman’s work. My actual favourite track by her is the B-side to this single ‘Perfect Moment’ (the title says it all). One regret was that I never actually got to see her live when she supported Beverley Craven.

So should this have been a hit or miss?

Bonus : ‘Sometimes I’m Wild’

Very much how i got to hear about her. Standing looking at discs when they put this on in a shop that’s long gone. Still sounds far better than anything else I’ve heard. So simple and subtle and yet so soulful.

So what do you think then ....
