Hidden Gems : The Tea Set – Parry Thomas

Continuing this very popular viewed series of Hidden Gems (tracks which should have been hits). I’ll present you a track via YouTube, Daily Motion, Soundcloud or another site. These posts are for the music only.

Today to add in line with the BBC 6 Music’s Vinyl Only Day I’ve chosen a song without a video lifted from the original vinyl 7″ single. I first heard and bought this single when I found out that The Tea Set would be supporting The Stranglers at the Corby Festival Hall on 23 July 1980 for just 35p. The gig was in support of the campaign to stop the town’s steels works from closing (which happened). Recently BBC 6 Music have played a few of their sessions, but their music is hard to find. The single was actually a double ‘A’ side with ‘Tri X Pan‘. This is one single that won’t be sold from my collection as it’s not just a great DIY indie single but holds great memories too. The cover was a poster and the free tea bag has long sinced been used. This version on YouTube sadly has missed off the end reprise.

So should it have been a hit or a miss?

Here’s the complete version
