Hidden Gems : Fischer Z – So Long

Continuing this very popular viewed series of Hidden Gems (tracks which should have been hits). I’ll present you a track via YouTube, Daily Motion, Soundcloud or another site. These posts are for the music only.

Originally I thought that Fischer Z was a German band but infact they hailed from southern England fronted by the singer John Watts. For some reason chart success eluded them in the homeland whereas funny enough in Germany they were superstars. This single ‘So Long‘ made the giddy heights of number 72, what travesty. It was the lead single from their second of nine band albums, ‘Going Death For A Living‘. A whole succession of songs failed to nudge their way into the UK Top 40 including ‘Marliese‘, ‘Perfect Day‘ and ‘The Worker‘. John Watts continues today with his solo career and has released over ten albums. I have them all and play them often. I always thought the band Latin Quarter sounded alot like them too vocally.

So should it have been a hit or a miss?
