Hidden Gems : Fad Gadget – Life On The Line

Continuing my series of Hidden Gems where I’ll present you a track via YouTube, Daily Motion, Soundcloud or another site off the net. These posts are for the music only.

This band Fad Gadget (really Frank Tovey) for the life of me never had a hit and credit to the label Mute who stuck with him through thick and thin.  Maybe it was his often macabre or risky lyrics which denied daytime national airplay? I was lucky to have witnessed his often crazy live shows a few times. I even came home once covered in shaving foam after another one of his memorable gigs at the London Venue.

Always ahead of his time, they used the industrial sound on stage before Depeche Mode, had Alison Moyet as backing singer (before she joined Yazoo). Sadly he died too soon but he’s left an amazing legacy which I’m sure Lady Ga Ga has picked up a few tips from him.

So should it have been a hit or a miss?

Bonus a rather cool remix – Under The Flag (Downloadable use arrow down)
