Hidden Gems : Comsat Angels – Will You Stay Tonight

Continuing my series of Hidden Gems where I’ll present you a track via YouTube, Daily Motion, Soundcloud or another site off the net. These posts are for the music only.

Today is a band whom I’ve seen many times but never got the credit they deserved. Touted by many to be big as U2 but sadly they were the nearly’s. Infact The Comsat Angels toured with them back in 1981 (saw them at Rock City) alternating who topped the bill each night. The song chosen seemed most likely to have charted and almost did hit the Top 40 – ‘Will You Stay Tonight’. Recently they decided to call it a day but not before I saw them at the Islington O2 in in 2009. They released many albums on various labels including Polydor, Jive and Island.

So should it have been a hit or a miss?

Not the finest example of the Comsats’ craft, but should still have been a hit. I’ve been to all five of their reunion gigs during 2009 and 2010. I don’t hold out much hope for any more, but you never know!

Totally agreed many other tracks far better than this, but this was the most commercial and could and should have been a hit. Independence Day / Do The Empty House come to mind … but a fair point.

So what do you think then ....
