Being a fan of his books including ‘Rip It Up & Start Again‘ and ‘Totally Wired – Post Punk‘ I was pleased to find that he’s also a compulsive blogger with more blogs than days in a week, all still running. It’s an Aladdin’s cave of music. The thing I like about him he’s not pompous or snobbish about music, he takes it at face value.
I have to say I have alot of affinity to him, and can relate to his many tastes of music. Lately I’ve been reading some of ‘Blissblog‘ which re-opened my eyes to songs long since lost in the back of my mind many moons ago. If nothing else it’s a scream checking out the fashion of time, TOTP audiences and a very insecure usually mimed performance by bands who’d be much happier in a dimly lit smokey room filled students bedecked in their rain coats still on (even in the summer).
The best way to describe him is to say that his writings are like a musical tapestry which seems to have no end. Here’s just a few of his blogs, all seem to be interlinked: ‘Blissblog‘, ‘SR Archives‘, ‘Bring The Noise‘, ‘Hardly Baked‘ and of course ‘Rip It Up & Start Again – Footnotes‘.
The only downside I can find is slightly lame attempts by the greedy record labels to cash in on his masterpieces and release the so-called ‘accompanying’ albums. That’s probably not his fault as I’m sure he would have been happier releasing a 50 CD box set of the songs he’d really want for a compilation that sported the name of his far superior books. Why not go purchase a book by him remember he’s just a fan like you and me who’s in it for the music.
